Florida Chess Association Membership Details

By joining the FCA, you contribute to the growth of chess in Florida and support our mission.

The association uses membership dues to organize events, promote chess education initiatives, communicate with members, and support players of all ages and backgrounds through scholarships, programs, and tournaments.

• Membership in the association gives you a voice in decisions affecting the chess community statewide and nationally. We send representatives as delegates to the US Open to speak and vote on behalf of members. Any member in good standing can run for election to the board or represent us as a delegate per our By-Laws.

• We maintain a website, magazine floridaCHESS, and social media presence to communicate easily to and amongst members. In addition, we provide a tournament Clearinghouse to assist our affiliates and organizers across the state in advertising their events and tournaments.

• We provide state championship tournaments: Senior (50+), Women & Girls, K-12 Scholastic, Collegiate, Blitz, Quick, and Overall Championship.

• We send state representatives to the Tournament of Champions events yearly at the US Open. Irwin: Seniors (50+), Denker: HS (9-12), Haring: Girls (K-12), Rockefeller: ES (K-5), and Weeramantry: Blitz

• We recognize individuals who have had a profound impact on chess in Florida through the Florida Chess Hall of Fame.

• We maintain an open door policy, are open to feedback, and welcome collaboration for the benefit of chess in our state. We actively seek to improve our organization. Currently, our board members are on multiple committees of US Chess (By-Laws, College Chess, FIDE Events, National State Invitationals, Chess in Education, State and Affiliates, Ethics, Audit, Scholastic Committee, and others).

To answer the question: “What do I get by paying FCA dues?” In short, you get the FCA board. Your financial contribution from your membership dues helps keep the organization running smoothly and provides opportunities to all chess players in Florida, thank you for your contribution.
